Rx for Business courses are designed to inform and educate physicians and healthcare professionals who are responsible for managing the economics of healthcare practices.  Participants will be introduced to best practices for managing their businesses and for producing excellent results.  Courses vary from teaching residents who are about to enter private practice the details they need to successfully launch a practice to courses designed for the professional who has been practicing long enough to recognize where gaps exist in their business acumen.  Single-topic presentations are offered to address current issues, such as electronic health records or current trends affecting medical practices. Presentations based on specific topics can also be created at your request.  


The following are descriptions of courses currently offered:


Rx for Business – The Emerging Professional  


This course is designed for the resident or professional who is about to establish or begin working in a new practice.  This 5 hour seminar teaches all of the specific information to successfully establish the business.  Topics include:


                                             i.     Selection of entity

                                            ii.     Financing options

                                           iii.     Licensing requirements & credentialling

                                           iv.     Office staffing and management


Rx for Business – Broadening Your Business Knowledge Base 

This course is designed for the healthcare professional who has already launched a practice and now needs additional specific information to successfully manage it.  Participants at this seminar have had experience managing and/or owning a practice and have specific topics of concern.  Specific audience questions will be addressed in detail.  Topics include:

                                            i.    Understanding financial statement

                                           ii.    Regulatory requirements

                                          iii.    Trends in the era of reform

                                          iv.    Office operations


Rx for Business – Healthcare Reform

This one-hour presentation is designed to provide an overview of the major themes of the healthcare reform.  This presentation is appropriate for all healthcare providers and practice managers. Topics include:

                                              i.    Trends in reimbursement.

                                             ii.    Accountable Care Organizations

                                            iii.    Clinical Integration


Rx for Business – Calculating Return On Investment for EHR Implementation  

As practices implement EHRs it is important to determine up-front costs, continuing costs and potential benefits.  This one-hour presentation will discuss the individual component costs to an EHR implementation and the methods for measuring benefits.  Topics include:

                                             i.     Calculating hard costs

                                            ii.     Identifying soft costs

                                           iii.     Continuing costs

                                           iv.     Measuring return


RX for Business – Management Principles for Practice                Managers

This course is designed to provide practical guidelines for practice managers.   Topics include:

                                              i.     Office staffing

                                             ii.     Human resource considerations

                                            iii.     Office procedures checklist
